Magic Decanter Red Wine Aerator

Magic Decanter Red Wine Aerator Review.

WINE NEEDS TO BREATHE

Red wine which has been allowed to breathe tastes better. As wine breathes, it opens up, and releases its intended aromas and flavors. Traditionally, decanters were used to aerate wine. However, decanting can be time consuming, cumbersome, and inconvenient.

Magic Decanter’s design speeds up this process with ease and convenience. Perfect aeration can be achieved in the time it takes to pour a glass.

ALL THE TASTE WITH NONE OF THE WAIT

Simply hold the Magic Decanter over a glass and pour wine through. Magic Decanter draws in and mixes the proper amount of air for the right amount of time, allowing your wine to breathe instantly. You’ll notice a better bouquet, enhanced flavors and smoother finish.

IT’S THAT FAST…IT’S THAT EASY

Note that the “Fold Line” extending from the aeration hole is a normal part of the manufacturing process. This is not a defect, but part of manufacturing.

This is a very good product and compared to the other aerators out there for the same price, I believe that this is the best one by far.

 “Shouldn’t work, but does” 2010-02-02
By Al Johnson (Seattle, WA United States)

I bought this at the urging of a friend who has one. Very elegant, well-made little machine– and darned if it doesn’t make a noticeable difference in the taste of red wine. Compared 2 glasses poured right after opening a bottle of Cab Sauv– and the decanted one tasted noticeably smoother.

Well, okay, you say, but couldn’t you accomplish the same thing by opening the bottle a bit ahead of time and just letting it breathe? Maybe not: I repeated the test after the bottle had been opened for about 4 hours, and the difference was still there.

And it’s fun: wine makes a satisfying gurgle as it runs through.

Worth the money, at least at this under-$20 price.

“Wow! it really does make a difference!!” 2010-01-28
By Seattle ricky (seattle wa)

I just bought this item and it came as promised and i could not wait to try it as i have heard so much about these things but did not want to pay the […] bucks they usually cost. figured for $18, it was worth and try..and man,i could not believe the difference it makes! This thing was worth every penny! I am a firm believer in the notion of not having to spend a lot for a decent bottle of wine and so i took a decent Australian Cab and gave this a shot. I was blown away and the difference and frankly i dont think i am the most sophisticated wine drinker but i can tell a crappy red from a good one and this really helps make a solid wine a better than solid wine! I dont think it will take a bad bottle and make it good…although i havent tried that yet but you will be amazed at what it can do for an already decent wine. DO NOT SPEND THE $40 FOR THOSE OTHER ONES!!! this one works great!

“It Really Does Improve My Wine” 2010-01-20
By M. Davidson (Seattle, WA USA)

I have a lot of friends that had been using a wine aerator and I heard from nearly all about how cool and effective the product was for their red wine enjoyment. So after searching Amazon I found the Magic Decanter Red Wine Decanter Magic Decanter Red Wine Aerator. I made the decision for this particular device because it said it would do everything that the more expensive ones would do, but the price was much less than the others.

So in my initial “no wine snob” test, I could taste and smell the difference on a mediocre bottle of wine. We could certainly improve the perceived quality of the wines on our shelf.

It was great fun to do a double blind test with my wife and see if she could see a difference in the wine. The test came off without a flaw and this process will probably increase our consumption of wine. I’ve conducted several other tastings with friends, and we all agree – this thing works.

If you’re a serious wine drinker – or shopping for a wine drinker in your life – give this product a try. At less than $20, it’s about the price of a decent California Cabernet, and will yield results for decades to come. I plan on picking up a few dozen for my friends and clients.

Vacu Vin Stainless Steel Wine Saver Gift Set

May 8, 2010 Leave a comment

Vacu Vin Stainless Steel Wine Saver Gift Set Review. The Wine Saver is a vacuum pump which extracts the air from an opened bottle and reseals it with a reusable rubber stopper. It slows down the oxidation process and keeps the wine fresh for 7 to 10 days

 “Handsome and Practical” 2007-12-27
By Lynn Hoffman, author:The Short Course in Beer (Philadelphia)

This stainless version of the popular winesaver includes two non-drip pouring spouts. The stainless look is perhaps worth a few dollars more than the cost of the plastic models.

Looking at the reviews of this an other Vacuvin products, you see reports that are deeply contradictory. It’s interesting that there is such a divergence of experience with such a simple product. The ideas behind Vacuvin are pretty simple.

First, air is the enemy of an open bottle of wine. Bacteria in the air want to turn alcohol into vinegar. The air itself oxidizes and dulls the taste of all but the most robust wines.

Second, you can remove some of the air with a simple pump and thereby slow down the rate at which wine deteriorates.

Why then, do we have both no-star and five-star reactions to this product?

Maybe the biggest source of disagreement is expectations. Vacuvin slows the deterioration of wine in the bottle, but it doesn’t stop it.

Another possible reason for all the disagreement might be a question of temperature. The biochemical reactions that kill your wine are temperature sensitive. They proceed faster when the wine is warm and slow down when it’s cool. Putting a pumped-out bottle in the refrigerator or wine cooler will slow down the spoilage processes and make Vacuvin more effective.

A third issue is the way the wine is handled before the Vacuvin plug goes in. If wine has a lot of air dissolved in it by being poured from decanter to bottle, there’s no system that will keep it fresh.

 “Wine Saver, Money Saver” 2007-08-29
By Alan (West Lawn PA)

As any wine drinker, be it red or white, knows, the worst thing that can happen to a bottle of wine opened at dinner, is to not be able to finish the bottle of wine at dinner.

I’m a novice drinker of wine, and sometimes can go through a bottle with my girlfriend in one night, other times, the wine just doesn’t go down as well, and you want to save it for the next night. Previous attempts to recork the bottle, or buy a cheap $5 wine saver cork at Target were unsuccessful and only allowed me a day or two of storage in the fridge.

Then along came Vacu Vin. The giftset is a blessing in disguise, as not only does it come with Vacu Vin’s pump and 2 stoppers, it also comes with 2 wine pourers, which eliminates my most hated part of the wine, trying to not leak wine all over the counter/floor when I was done with a glass’s pour.

The vacu vin gives me about 5 days in the wine cooler before its time to either finish it, or pour it down the drain.

I give this 2 thumbs up , and highly recommend it to all wine drinkers.

“Excellent Product for keeping Wine fresher…” 2007-03-03
By Q. Gessner

This product is well made and easy to use. The pump makes a “clicking” sound when the vacuum seal has reached it’s maximum. I have found that you still have to refrigerate your wine for best results and that this product will not eliminate the need to keep your opened wine chilled.

This product will extend the life of your wine’s, however not indefinitely. It is designed to extend the freshness of the wine, not prolong it forever!

For the money – this product delivers! Made well and built to last.

 “Great gift” 2009-01-08
By J. Ivanhoe (New Jersey, USA)

Gave it to my husband and he really enjoys it. He likes how the pump clicks when it has pumped all the air out. Also, the wine pour spout is great – no more drops on your tablecloth.

“Does what it’s supposed to do.” 2010-02-12
By Ryan Tishken (Honoulu, HI)

I previously had another wine saver that pumped out the air, but you had to guess how many pumps and it didn’t always hold a seal. This wine saver has solved both of those problems. You pump out the air until it clicks, so you know to stop pumping, and everytime so far it has held the seal as it should. It’s nice when a product does what it says it does. No disappoint here, only smiles.

 “Looks and Works Great” 2007-01-09
By N. Fitzgerald

I was surprised as to how well this item actually worked when we opened and started using it. I purchased this as a ‘filler’ gift for my wife for Christmas. Knowing that it was a gadjety gift I did not have high expecations. We used this for fun and found out how easy it is to use and how cleanly it removes the cork. It opens many bottles on one charge, although we have not yet tried to prove the box statement correct that it opens 30 bottles on one charge.

Good for a person who struggles with conventional wine openers and breaking corks.

The bonus wine chiller is stylish and functional.

“The wine opener alone sells for way more than this in retail stores and wine catalogs!” 2009-05-30
By A. Chandler (Austin, TX)

We actually originally bought just the wine opener at a department store. As is usual with Amazon, this online price is waaay better than what we paid for the wine opener ALONE…I was told at a dinner party that Amazon had the wine opener for less than what I paid so we went online to order several of these as gifts and found we could get the wine chiller too for less!

Not only do these two wine lovers love the opener, but every time we use it in front of someone they fall in love and want one so it’s the perfect gift.

So…we ordered a few with the wine chiller and tried out the wine chiller as well and are equally as impressed! We had a dinner party and ran low on white wine. A fast chill provided by the wine chiller kept the dinner party flowing smoothly.

We had a $150 dollar wine opener that didn’t work nearly as impressive and easily as this one did. In fact, a wine opener just like this is still in wine catalogs for over $100. It may even be the same one…that’s the first place we saw it.

As for how it works…place it on the bottle, push the button, ZIP…it uncorks it for you.

TO REMOVE THE CORK: (totally easy) you just push the button in reverse and it pops it right out for you to remove it! Anyone who didn’t know this trick may not have read that part of the instructions as I could see that trying to remove it otherwise would be difficult. but it’s a cinch if you push that reverse button…even easier than removing it from a manual opener!

CONCLUSION: I love to drink wine but hate opening it and have broken enough corks in my day to realize I shouldn’t. This is uncorkage 101 at it’s finest whether you are a pro opener or as clumsy as me…looks impressive, is a major conversation piece once you use it, works in seconds with no brainpower needed, and the battery charge lasts so long that we even took it on a cruise and uncorked our wine during the whole trip perfectly and still came home and used it for a few weeks without having to recharge!

The wine chiller works just as well as the ones costing hundreds more. We are a lover of Oster and Amazon for this bargain set for our gift giving!! My parents, who have everything, are as hooked as we are on this and now gift it themselves to others.

And, more importantly, we’ve had it for a year now and it’s as good as new. Some more expensive wine openers we’ve had had more fragile pieces that didn’t hold up.

While it’s the perfect gift, you’ll want to keep it for yourself if you don’t yet have one.

 “amazing wine opener” 2007-11-08
By J. Gayer (Philadelphia area)

I first saw this wine opener at a friend’s party and was so amazed by it that I have purchased more than 5 for friends, clients and family. It really does open 30 bottles on one charge and very quickly. What more could one ask for at a party, large or small?

 “Fast & easy” 2007-12-08
By Pamela (Atlanta)

I received this as a gift last Christmas. I have used it consistently now and it never fails. It is almost too easy. The trick is to hold the bottle so that it does not move, preferably supported by the counter, and lightly press down with the opener. Once you get the trick it is like slicing a piece of cake. No messed up cork screws just a smooth opener. It takes up very little room on the counter and once charged works for quite a few openings.

“Easy on the hands wine opener” 2008-09-13
By Phyllis Schmidt (Virginia)

My husband has problems with regular wine bottle openers because he has arthritis in his fingers. I searched the web to see if there was any other type of opener that he could use without any hassles. The Oster 4207 and 4208 are fantastic. The Oster 4208 comes with a wine chiller that makes this a special gift to give to others. We have given three of these as gifts to people who found them to be excellent and fun to use.

By A. Smith (metro DC)

When shopping for these replacement corks, I was trying to find a review to confirm that the new style corks work with the old style pump. I took the chance that they would, and happily found that the new design corks work with old design pump.

“What’s to say? They do what they say they’ll do, and they last” 2005-08-30
By Daniel J. Klotz (Lancaster, PA USA)

This vacuum pump system works well enough to keep a bottle of wine good for up to a week or more. Having more than one stopper on hand is useful when you don’t want to drink the same wine every night or when you live with someone whose preference differs from yours.

Having a set of extra stoppers is especially useful in the aftermath of a house party, when you may have several half-empty bottles of wine left over.

These stoppers last very well. They don’t dry or crack, even when washed frequently in the dishwasher. It is convenient to have a stopper available even when the others are waiting for the dishwasher to be run.

“Works with the Vacu-Vin Pump” 2008-04-15
By Weatherman (Northeast, Pennsylvania, USA)

These are great! However you NEED the VacuVin PUMP to make them use. Don’t try to use them without the pump as they will not stay in secure, and will not keep your wine fresh. You’re better off using a piece of plastic over the bottle if then to just try ordering these corks without first having the pump.

With the pump these work great and are necessary as extras. Just make sure you take them apart and wash them in hot soapy water before using.

Also, both times I ordered these extras they came in a plastic zip lock bag with an amazon label. So I think Amazon must get a batch of them in and seperate them by hand.

Vinturi Essential Wine Aerators, Red Wine and White Wine, Set of 2

May 7, 2010 Leave a comment

Vinturi Essential Wine Aerators, Red Wine and White Wine, Set of 2 Review. Red wine needs to breathe to allow it to open up, release its intended aromas, and of course, make it taste better. Vinturi’s patent pending design speeds up this process by instantly aerating with ease and convenience. White wine needs to breathe too. It is a longstanding myth that white wine does not need aeration. The truth is that white wine displays the same improvements with aeration as red wine. Vinturi white is the most effective way to aerate white wine. Taste your wine the way the winemaker intended. Vinturi for white wine is specially designed to aerate white wine exclusively. Both Vinturi red and white aerators deliver recognizable improvements immediately: better bouquet, enhanced flavors and smoother finish. Perfect aeration in the time it takes to pour a glass. It couldn’t be easier. Vinturi aerators come with a no-drip stand and a travel pouch. Made of acrylic. Aerator and stand are dishwasher safe. Travel pouch is machine washable. The glossy, clear acrylic is elegant and clean. But do note that there are two slight fold lines that extend upward from each air hole. These are normal. During manufacturing, material folds around rods and wraps back, and this causes the fold lines. Set of 2.

 “Vinturi Wine Aeators” 2009-11-11
By Rockster (Illinois)

I bought the pair of these (for red and white wines) because Amazon’s price for a bundle was very good. So, when they arrived, I grabbed a bottle of red and a bottle of white wine and did some taste comparisons with the wife. We tasted a wine before and after aerating. I have to say, if nothing else, these things are very entertaining. When you pour wine into the top and it comes out the bottom into your wine glass, the wine bubbles loudly and it makes you laugh – very entertaining for a party. The difference is very noticeable. Wine run through the aerator is smoother and has more flavor. Nobody has ever guessed wrong about whether a wine was aerated or not. The quality of wine affects how the aerator works. A really bad wine may become drinkable, but don’t expect it to become even good. On the other hand, a mediocre wine can become quite drinkable. So, your mileage will vary, but you should taste the difference clearly. I liked them so much, I bought another package and sent it to my duaghter who is also a wine lover. Great product.

 “wine vinturi” 2009-11-19
By Mr. Edwin B. Smith

The wine vinturi does what it states in the advertisement. Found the use of them does enhance the taste of the wine when decanted using the venturi. Excellent delivery service and I would endorse the purchase to anybody.

“All the rage in Solvang” 2010-03-04
By A. Doss (Los Angeles)

I am in no way a wine snob. But, the GF loves to consume wine. I may have a glass a week, she’s closer to one a night. So, the idea of decanting a whole bottle to allow it to breathe before serving makes sense, but you kinda have to drink the whole bottle that night. When you’re entertaining, no problem. But, if you just want to pour a glass for yourself, it’s really hard to commit to decanting a whole bottle.

So, I bought the kit (with the electronic wine opener, which is great fun). Now, it is a two handed operation. You have to hold the aerator in one hand, bottle in the other, glass on the table. If you don’t pour fast enough, the air doesn’t get sucked in through the side holes. If you pour too fast, you run the risk of overflowing. But, to be honest, it’s pretty simple and you get the hang of how fast to pour and you can hear the sucking sound (which sounds odd, but it’s a clear sign of air being infused with the wine). So, that’s as tricky as it gets. Oh, and with whatever hand you’re holding the aerator make sure you fingers don’t cover the holes on the side, where the air gets sucked in. That’s it…those are all the tips you need.

The red wine aerator has a screen for particles. The white wine one doesn’t. The kit comes with a cute travel bag, etc. and the stands are easy/convenient.

But, now the subjective part. Does it affect taste? Of course it does. I did a lot of blind comparisons with friends and with the GF. Which is also a good excuse to have people over to drink. And I’ve served aerated and non-aerated, the same bottle, and people think it’s two different wines, every time. Most prefer the aerated version of the same wine. It can make a $7 bottle wine that much smoother. Does it make it a $200 bottle of wine? Heck if I know, I don’t buy $200 bottles of wine. The most expensive I get is $30, tops.

Like any good wino, I have my favorite types of wine at all price points. So, it makes the wines I like, taste better, for sure. It can make a good wine a little bit better. Similar to how a great wine benefits from being decanted. So, it is a palpable difference, usually for the better. And, without the commitment of an entire bottle. I can aerate one glass at a time and feel no pressure to finish the bottle that night.

In short, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a simple thing and it does “force” a wine to breathe for immediate, glass by glass, consumption.

 “Great gift!” 2009-12-28
By Horizon MacKenzie

We purchased this item for my parents. They are wine lovers, but have never believed in taking the time to properly decant the wine. Over the years we have seen them wait until the very last minute to open a bottle of wine and then do a number of complicated things to try and air out the wine. When they received the Vinturi Aerators, they were skeptical. We just checked in on them, and two weeks later, they are in love with this product! They said the taste of the wine is dramatically improved by use of the Vinturi – this is true for both red and white wine. This was a great gift for hard-to-shop-for in-laws who have most wine accessories. Their reviews have convinced us – we are planning on ordering a set for ourselves soon.

“Really makes a difference in taste of wine” 2009-12-30
By Sharon L. Nawalanic (Fort Lauderdale, FL USA)

We had an experience with the Vinturi red wine aerator at a friends house. First several people tasted wine without being aerated, then the same wine with use of the aerator. Everyone agreed that it did make a difference in taste – even those who did not know which was which. All prefered the taste with use of the aerator. We gave several sets for Christmas presents to friends – makes a great gift and at this point not many have the aerator for white wine. Delivery of the product was fast and as scheduled…we love Amazon Prime!

Vinturi Deluxe 7-Piece Wine Aerator Set

May 7, 2010 Leave a comment

Vinturi Deluxe 7-Piece Wine Aerator Set Review. From vinturi, the deluxe aerator set includes the new vinturi tower and the sensational vinturi red wine aerator. The set has a two piece design which makes it easy to clean and easy to store (even though you’ll want to keep this beautiful set out in full view). Tower features a stylish no-splash grate which eliminates mess. Vinturi has been a sensation because it works. Red wine needs to breathe to allow it to open up, release its intended aromas, and of course, make it taste better. Vinturi’s patent pending design speeds up this process by instantly aerating with ease and convenience. Taste your wine the way the winemaker intended. It delivers recognizable improvements immediately: better bouquet, enhanced flavors and smoother finish. Perfect aeration in the time it takes to pour a glass! It couldn’t be easier. Vinturi aerator sits on top of tower allowing for easy, hands-free operation. The glossy, clear acrylic is elegant and clean. But do note that there are two slight fold lines in the vinturi aerator that extend upward from each air hole. These are normal. During manufacturing, material folds around rods and wraps back, and this causes the fold lines. Both items are dishwasher safe.

 “It really works!” 2009-12-16
By M. Dean (Elma, WA)

Well, I’ll be… this silly little thing actually works. How can you get the effect of decanted wine in the time it takes to pour a glass from a newly-opened bottle? After reading other reviews, I was convinced to try it, but after seeing it work I thought, “There’s no way- that was too fast and too easy.”

I was wrong.

I took 3 blind taste tests. I washed 2 identical glasses, opened a new bottle of Merlot, poured one straight from the bottle and poured the other through the Vinturi Aerator. I left the room and asked my wife to move the glasses to the table and call me when all the bubbles were gone. There was no question which one had been aerated. I picked it right away. Even when my son tried to tell me I picked wrong, I stood by my choice, it was that obvious. It softens the wine, releases the bouquet and created a silky finish. I took multiple tests and picked it right every time. My wife took turns testing and could tell as well.

I got an aerator for red and white so a couple days later I opened a bottle of white and did the same test and got the same results. The difference is enough that I won’t have a glass without it now. Even wine I would normally open and pour and drink right away is now aerated, red or white, it makes a real difference.

I bought the tower, which is an added expense, but it’s nice for parties so guests can serve themselves and not have to handle the aerator, just pour and enjoy. The quality of the parts feel solid, not cheesy plastic like I thought it would be. Taken care of, I don’t see why these can’t last for many years, and since it’s just liquid and air, it should work just as well in 10 years as it does today.

I’m impressed and plan to show them off to my fellow wine enthusiasts at our annual New Years party.

“We love our wine and the Venturi is fantastic.” 2010-01-12
By Christine Tarr

The Venturi is just what we hoped it would be. All the young wines at restaurants today make it difficult. We’ve used it on a newer red, 2007 Brunello, and an older, 1998 Shiraz, just to see the difference. The Shiraz was already ready to drink but the Venturi opened it quickly. The 2007 was amazing – it was far too young and yet the Venturi did the trick. It still isn’t a 1998 vintage but the difference was truly amazing. You can take the Venturi anywhere in its cloth case. Get the tower as well but use a decanter underneath instead of a wine glass. With a glass (even a taller one) there is some spill from the height. The tower does have a “catch” for the spill but the decanter takes away most of that.

“Looks elegant and does what it is supposed to” 2010-02-15
By Gypsy Rover (Everett, WA USA)

The Vinturi Deluxe Aerator Set was a present we bought for our daughter.

She is very pleased with it and it looks good on her counter with the stand and all. (It was on her Christmas list.)

We have a plain Vinturi without the stand and use it regularly to decant wines. We seldom think to open a bottle before we want to drink it, so this “opens” the wine and brings out its best flavors and nose instant gratification style.

The stand would be a little handier to use and provides a good place to keep the Vinturi.

Once you’ve used an aerator for reds you’ll never be without one again. We use this one on the tower at home and have another (without tower) for traveling.

By J. Powell (Brooklyn, NY United States)

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RIZ08U6I1VB06 This is my first video review of a product, and the very first time I used this product. It’s a simple product to use, and works well.

UPDATE 6/16/2009

I must say, while the product works as indicated in the video, about a month ago, I heard a loud “crack”, and the corkscrew simply broke off inside the unit. I took the unit apart to see if I could do a quick repair and there was no easy way to do that.

Based on that shoddy construction, and it only lasting less than a year, I can’t really fully endorse this product.

“A marvel of low tech” 2007-04-12
By hyytekk

As a person who loathes cheap, clutter, infomercial widgets I bought this out or sheer curiosity imagining it would be returned the same day. This opener is large, requires an electric plug and takes up counter space. But to my surprise it works amazingly well. There is a foil cutter that is stored in the base. The screw enters cleanly and seems to eliminate broken and shredded corks which can be frustrating. Hold the button again and the cork emerges from the device and drops out. I always liked my sturdy and simple stainless steel opener. But this turned out to be a keeper. It’s design is contemporary and clean, although it looks like it should do something more profound than just pull a cork. It’s also a conversation piece provoking smiles from guests. A pleasant surprise, highly recommended and especially so for a person who lacks hand or wrist strength.

 “Best Wine Opener Ever!!” 2006-12-13

I have a whole menagerie of wine openers and NOTHING compares to this Oster opener. I have bought them for gifts too and everyone loves them! I don`t think you`ll be disappointed in the least!!

This product makes opening a bottle of wine effortless. Any wine drinker with Arthritis or Carpal tunnel (like me) should own this. You do need one hand on the bottle and one on the opener to keep them from rotating, then just hold the rocker switch down. It has a sleek look and fits in on your bar or counter. A great gift!

I have been trying to find a corkscrew that my wife will use with enthusiasm for about 15 years. Up until this one, they have all been “too hard” and I have to end up opening her wine. She is now perfectly happy to open a bottle of wine by herself, and that’s all I can ask. It’s a rather large device for what it does, but its kind of cool looking, so it makes up for its size.
