Vacu Vin 3-Piece Wine Saver Pump and Stopper Gift Pack, White

May 9, 2010 Leave a comment

Vacu Vin 3-Piece Wine Saver Pump and Stopper Gift Pack, White Review. Vacu-Vin wine saver system. The only thing sadder than pouring spoiled wine down the drain is not opening it at all because you can’t finish the bottle at one meal. The one and only, original Vacu-Vin, used in more than 10 million homes worldwide, is the easiest, most affordable way to preserve opened wines. The Vacu-Vin pump removes the air (and the oxygen that spoils wine) from opened bottles. Place it over the reusable stopper and pump out the air. The more stoppers you have, the more bottles you can save! One-year warranty. Includes one pump and two stoppers. Gift boxed. Fits any size or type wine bottle. Additonal stoppers available here

Without the VacuVin a bottle of wine presentings a daunting undertaking – are we ready to drink 4-5 glass of wine right now? The VacuVin eliminates this problem by allowing you to remove the air from the bottle after you have opened it, which slows the oxidation which turns the wine sour.

You stick the rubber stopper snuggly into the bottle top, place the VacuVin on top and pump its handle 4-8 times (depending on how empty the bottle is). With each pump, the VacuVin sucks out more air though a narrow slit in the rubber stopper. You can feel the vacuum inside building as each pump takes more effort. The vacuum then holds the slit closed.

The beauty of this, is that it takes no time at all – maybe 15 seconds, tops. With the VacuVin, I’ve been able to enjoy the same bottle of wine for upwards of a week. One hint for a better vacuum seal, is to run the rubber stopper under water before using it – a little moisture helps achieve a better seal, especially when the rubber stoppers are no longer new.

“An essential item when you don’t want to drink it all now” 2000-06-27
By Meriah L. Crawford (Richmond, VA USA)

This is a great tool for anyone who likes wine. I use mine all the time. It does preserve wine well and is quite easy to use, but I would encourage you to get extra stoppers and to use only Vacu Vin brand. I’ve found that other brands don’t always work very well.

For red wines at optimal drinking age, don’t rely on the vacu vin for more than 1-2 days, 3 at most (and that will be too much for some). You may find that younger wines even benefit from a few days. This is worth trying if you open a bottle and find you don’t like it. Or, if it’s that bad, preserve it for cooking.

Enjoy!

“Simple and effective solution for unfinished bottles” 2001-08-11
By Ryuji Suzuki (Cambridge, MA USA)

I find bottles resealed with this vacuum stop to maintain freshness longer than with a cork. Although it depends on the kind of wine, I find the wine is perfectly enjoyable for a couple of days, and in some cases still acceptable within a week. I could never enjoy bottles resealed with cork more than a day after, before started using this product.

However, after experimenting several things, I found a few tips I describe below will help maintaining wine fresher than just using this product without thinking. These steps are unnecessary if you know you will finish the bottle.

1. Chill the bottle before opening. You need to do nothing if the bottle is just out of wine fridge. You can warm the wine in the glass later.

2. Pour chilled wine into glasses just after opening the bottle, and seal the bottle with vacu-vin right away. You can aerate the wine in the glass. If you know you’ll have three glasses for yourself, you can even pour into three glasses now! The idea is to minimize the time the wine is exposed to the air.

3. Keep the vacuum sealed bottle refrigerated. However, before drinking, make sure you warm it up to your regular serving temperature (I like most reds at 65-70F) and aerate the wine.
If you serve wine too cold, you may feel it tastes flat and acidy, with less body, and you might incorrectly think this is because of imperfection of the vacu-vin.

Finally, once opened, I don’t think any wine can be stored for a long time without losing freshness, and this product is not an exception. It merely helps extending acceptable storage time from one day to a few days.

“The best wine saver I have found!” 2000-05-04
By Ireland (Marin County, California)

If you truly want a easy to use wine saver that works this is the one to buy! It is the only one that I have found that keeps my open bottles of wine from spoiling. My friends have loved receiving them as house warming gifts too! This is one product that has live up to it’s name “Wine Saver!”

 “The most useful thing” 2006-09-05
By K. Richter (Sunshine State)

I bought my Vacu Vin set about 4 years ago and it’s still working perfectly. It’s so easy to use and it does preserve the wine flavor for at least a few days. We no longer have to finish a whole bottle in one sitting or risk a spoiled wine. I’ve recommended it to a few of my friends and they all say they can’t live without it now.

Few things of note:

* Even with Vacu Vin, the wine will start to change flavor if kept over a week.

* You do need to pump a lot more than the instruction indicates. Keep pumping until you feel a strong resistance.

* Vacu Vin cannot be used for wines with fizz (such as Vino Verde, Champagne, etc). The reduced pressure will suck the gas out of the wine and make it flat very quickly.

* It’s better to keep the bottle upright so there’s no pressure on the rubber stopper (It does not need to stay moist like a cork).

Its purpose is to keep a leftover wine until you finish it, and it does that quite well.

Vacu Vin Stainless Steel Wine Saver Gift Set

Vacu Vin Stainless Steel Wine Saver Gift Set Review. The Wine Saver is a vacuum pump which extracts the air from an opened bottle and reseals it with a reusable rubber stopper. It slows down the oxidation process and keeps the wine fresh for 7 to 10 days

 “Handsome and Practical” 2007-12-27
By Lynn Hoffman, author:The Short Course in Beer (Philadelphia)

This stainless version of the popular winesaver includes two non-drip pouring spouts. The stainless look is perhaps worth a few dollars more than the cost of the plastic models.

Looking at the reviews of this an other Vacuvin products, you see reports that are deeply contradictory. It’s interesting that there is such a divergence of experience with such a simple product. The ideas behind Vacuvin are pretty simple.

First, air is the enemy of an open bottle of wine. Bacteria in the air want to turn alcohol into vinegar. The air itself oxidizes and dulls the taste of all but the most robust wines.

Second, you can remove some of the air with a simple pump and thereby slow down the rate at which wine deteriorates.

Why then, do we have both no-star and five-star reactions to this product?

Maybe the biggest source of disagreement is expectations. Vacuvin slows the deterioration of wine in the bottle, but it doesn’t stop it.

Another possible reason for all the disagreement might be a question of temperature. The biochemical reactions that kill your wine are temperature sensitive. They proceed faster when the wine is warm and slow down when it’s cool. Putting a pumped-out bottle in the refrigerator or wine cooler will slow down the spoilage processes and make Vacuvin more effective.

A third issue is the way the wine is handled before the Vacuvin plug goes in. If wine has a lot of air dissolved in it by being poured from decanter to bottle, there’s no system that will keep it fresh.

 “Wine Saver, Money Saver” 2007-08-29
By Alan (West Lawn PA)

As any wine drinker, be it red or white, knows, the worst thing that can happen to a bottle of wine opened at dinner, is to not be able to finish the bottle of wine at dinner.

I’m a novice drinker of wine, and sometimes can go through a bottle with my girlfriend in one night, other times, the wine just doesn’t go down as well, and you want to save it for the next night. Previous attempts to recork the bottle, or buy a cheap $5 wine saver cork at Target were unsuccessful and only allowed me a day or two of storage in the fridge.

Then along came Vacu Vin. The giftset is a blessing in disguise, as not only does it come with Vacu Vin’s pump and 2 stoppers, it also comes with 2 wine pourers, which eliminates my most hated part of the wine, trying to not leak wine all over the counter/floor when I was done with a glass’s pour.

The vacu vin gives me about 5 days in the wine cooler before its time to either finish it, or pour it down the drain.

I give this 2 thumbs up , and highly recommend it to all wine drinkers.

“Excellent Product for keeping Wine fresher…” 2007-03-03
By Q. Gessner

This product is well made and easy to use. The pump makes a “clicking” sound when the vacuum seal has reached it’s maximum. I have found that you still have to refrigerate your wine for best results and that this product will not eliminate the need to keep your opened wine chilled.

This product will extend the life of your wine’s, however not indefinitely. It is designed to extend the freshness of the wine, not prolong it forever!

For the money – this product delivers! Made well and built to last.

 “Great gift” 2009-01-08
By J. Ivanhoe (New Jersey, USA)

Gave it to my husband and he really enjoys it. He likes how the pump clicks when it has pumped all the air out. Also, the wine pour spout is great – no more drops on your tablecloth.

“Does what it’s supposed to do.” 2010-02-12
By Ryan Tishken (Honoulu, HI)

I previously had another wine saver that pumped out the air, but you had to guess how many pumps and it didn’t always hold a seal. This wine saver has solved both of those problems. You pump out the air until it clicks, so you know to stop pumping, and everytime so far it has held the seal as it should. It’s nice when a product does what it says it does. No disappoint here, only smiles.

“New design corks work with old design pump.” 2008-05-05
By A. Smith (metro DC)

When shopping for these replacement corks, I was trying to find a review to confirm that the new style corks work with the old style pump. I took the chance that they would, and happily found that the new design corks work with old design pump.

“What’s to say? They do what they say they’ll do, and they last” 2005-08-30
By Daniel J. Klotz (Lancaster, PA USA)

This vacuum pump system works well enough to keep a bottle of wine good for up to a week or more. Having more than one stopper on hand is useful when you don’t want to drink the same wine every night or when you live with someone whose preference differs from yours.

Having a set of extra stoppers is especially useful in the aftermath of a house party, when you may have several half-empty bottles of wine left over.

These stoppers last very well. They don’t dry or crack, even when washed frequently in the dishwasher. It is convenient to have a stopper available even when the others are waiting for the dishwasher to be run.

“Works with the Vacu-Vin Pump” 2008-04-15
By Weatherman (Northeast, Pennsylvania, USA)

These are great! However you NEED the VacuVin PUMP to make them use. Don’t try to use them without the pump as they will not stay in secure, and will not keep your wine fresh. You’re better off using a piece of plastic over the bottle if then to just try ordering these corks without first having the pump.

With the pump these work great and are necessary as extras. Just make sure you take them apart and wash them in hot soapy water before using.

Also, both times I ordered these extras they came in a plastic zip lock bag with an amazon label. So I think Amazon must get a batch of them in and seperate them by hand.

This is a nice product to have especially if you enjoy opening more than one bottle of wine at a time. The wine keeps in the fridge very nicely with the help of this item!!
